How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life?

I originally wanted to learn Spanish to become a social worker.  After living in Spain where I taught English for 6 years I decided to move back to The States to become a bilingual teacher.  I was the first class to get the BCLAD teaching credential in California.  Since then I have taught ESL, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and Spanish as a Foreign Language.  Some of my best friends are Spanish speakers. I appreciate being able to help Spanish-speaking students continue their studies in Spanish and communicate with their families.  Speaking Spanish has enhanced my travels in Spanish speaking countries with the ability to communicate with the people of the area as well as participate in adventures an English only speaker would not be able to.
