How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life?

I am a native Spanish speaker. Early on in my academic career I made the choice to further my studies in Spanish not knowing that this choice would lead to the professional opportunities that I experienced until now. I am happy that I can not only continue to use and teach my native language but that I can continue to encourage others to learn it as a second language or reinforce their knowledge when working with heritage students.

I’m originally from Mexicali, Baja California, México, and I grew up in Pomona, California. I have taught Spanish language and Chicano/Latino Literature for little more than 10 years in in three different states (California, Arizona, and Texas).
