Spanish Heritage Language Education Lecture Series

In conjunction with the launch of the Graduate Certificate in Spanish Heritage Language Education, the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University is pleased to announce a new online lecture series.

For the 2021-2022 academic year SHLE is thrilled to host four experts in Spanish heritage language education, critical pedagogies, and antiracist approaches to language education.

  • October 26th, 2021: Dr. Nelson Flores, “From academic language to language architecture: Challenging raciolinguistic ideologies in research and practice.”
  • November 16th, 2021: Dr. Maria Luisa Parra, “Spanish for community and civic engagement: An engaged scholarship curriculum for heritage learners.”
  • February 9th, 2022: Dr. Christopher Busey, “Black pasts and futurity: AfroLatinx contributions to the Black intellectual tradition.”
  • March 8th, 2022: Dr. Julio Torres, “It’s still about writing! From heritage language research to critical tasks.”
