How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life? |
I am proud to be a child of Mexican-immigrants that never let me lose my 1st language or heritage. My Spanish has improved through formal education, including a Master’s of Art in Spanish Literature and Linguistics.
While my bilingualism has helped my career, the greatest two points of impact have been on familial ties and my ability to help strangers communicate when language is a barrier. Each time I am able to help bridge a communication gap, I walk away with a huge smile in thanksgiving for my parents who taught me the value of being bilingual, biliterate and bicultural.

More About Me |
I am currently the Coordinator of World Langauges for Garland ISD. I serve at the pleasure of 78 World Langauge teachers.
In my career, I have been a Spanish teacher, coordinated curriculum for world languages and K-12 social studies, and have had various administrative responsibilities such as state/federal accountability, credit recovery and credit advancement, summer school programs and advanced academics. Prior to moving to Garland ISD, I was the assistant principal of a two-way dual-language elementary school; a job that I would go back to do free of charge if I didn’t need the income.
I am systemic in my thinking and planning, as to make the best use of every tax dollar, without regard to what program or initiative I am leading.
I am also working on my personal and professional goal of finishing my doctoral program. I am one year from completing the three-year program at Southern Methodist University.
