How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life?

I grow up speaking Spanish as a little girl. I am the oldest in my family, so I was expected to only speak Spanish with my parents. Once my siblings were born and we were in school, we would speak English between us, but always Spanish with my parents. I always enjoyed being able to speak both languages. I felt proud of being bilingual so I decided to pursue a career in teaching the language and culture.

How Long Have You Been Teaching?

Currently in my 21st year teaching Spanish.

More About Me

Currently in my third year as department chair. I also hold an Administrative Services Credential and Masters degree in Educational Leadership and School Development. I love teaching and absolutely LOVE working with my Heritage speakers. I’ve taught almost every level in Spanish, including a year of English Language Development when I first became a teacher. I have taught AP Spanish Language and Culture for 13 years and next year will also be teaching AP Spanish Literature and Culture for the first time.
