How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life?

After becoming interested in bilingualism and language contact situations, I started teaching heritage students at the University of Houston. I found that my students were constantly redefining themselves through linguistic creativity and made my job as a researcher much more relevant.

More About Me

Before pursuing higher education, I was an elemntary school bilingual teacher. I recently graduated from the University of Houston with a PhD in Spanish linguistics and currently live and work in Austin. My teaching interests include developing sociolinguistic and pragmatic competency for heritage learners. My research focuses on gender and politeness phenomena in United States Spanish.
