My initial exposure to Spanish was through children’s television shows and a short-lived after school class in first grade. I began formally studying Spanish in 8th grade. As an undergraduate I took a class on multilingualism and that sparked an interest in language variation and languages in contact and this led to my interest in Spanish as a heritage language. I began teaching SHL classes approximately three years ago and it has been both challenging and very rewarding.
