How Has Spanish Played a Role in Your Personal and Professional Life? | I began learning Spanish as a second language in middle school. I loved languages! I have family I visited every summer in Mexico, where I learned a great deal and continue to learn every summer I go back! I knew I wanted to be an educator, and I had a love of the Spanish language, so I majored in Bilingual Studies and Spanish. I taught bilingual for 14 years, but became discouraged by the paperwork and testing. I didn’t feel like I was getting to really teach these students, who needed it so much. So, I went to teach high school and taught both natives and non-natives Spanish. My passion is the heritage and native speaker population. |
How Long Have You Been Teaching? | 21 years |
More About Me | Not sure what more to say. I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister and educator. I am always looking for ways to grow professionally and personally in my life journey. I am excited to see language classes moving away from textbook dependent curricula, and hoping to help my district in the shift to meaningful teaching. |
