Does anyone have resources for training (or better yet trainers) for English writing professionals (who are monolinguals) working with a lot of heritage speakers (mostly Spanish but also Polish and other Chicagoland languages)? Our Academic Enrichment Center folks need help getting up to speed on how to work with bilinguals (and L2) writers. Thank you for any leads!

Something I used with my Native Speakers, ESOL, and AP Language classes is transitional words. I also used concordance tools (corpora analysis tools) to determine how the students were using the language in writing exercises i.e. frequently using “like” or “because”. Show them hoe they could replace certain terms and add transition words to increase the academic register of the writing.
